Weesp, March 2019
The first connection in a rural area in the province of Friesland will be completed in the spring of 2019. This connection will provide access to digital TV signals along with fast internet and phone lines. Kabelnoord selected Hirschmann Multimedia as its partner for the supply of the materials for the Video Overlay in the Access Network, which makes it possible to guarantee high-quality digital TV signals for the whole province. The project will take approximately two years from start to finish and will be delivered on a region-by-region basis. In the rural areas that are to be newly connected, approximately 20,000 residences will be connected to the fibre-optic network in addition to the existing 30,000 connections in northeast Friesland that can already access Kabelnoord's services. In this way, Kabelnoord will provide network coverage for residents in rural areas in the province of Friesland. Hirschmann is delivering Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs), redundant switches, and the corresponding passive products as a complete solution for this part of the network.
Hirschmann celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019
Mr Dick Kroon, director of Hirschmann Multimedia, the 50-year old technological knowledge-based company, is delighted with this decision in the company's anniversary year. ‘It is another project to be proud of as it reflects our knowledge and capabilities as a producer and supplier. It is very satisfying to be a part of a project that supplies television and radio signals to an entire province.’
Kabelnoord: Hirschmann is a conscious choice
Anton van der Hoek, Kabelnoord’s chief technology officer (CTO), says, ‘We were pleased to award this project to Hirschmann Multimedia, as their products and employees are highly esteemed and have been for many years. They have been a partner that brought quality and innovative products to the table from the very beginnings of cable television. Kabelnoord makes considered choices in which we select partners and products with proven track records. It was an easy decision for us, as we were already partners. Thanks to the EDFAs, redundant switches, and passive products they brought with them, the company was able to go above and beyond to demonstrate that it was qualified and had convincing references. They even included us in that process. We trust that this project will proceed smoothly and successfully.’
Optical Access products, such as Hirschmann's Torch series EDFAs, ROS series redundant switches, and the splitters that come with them were specially designed for this market and stand out because of their extremely low energy consumption, and very limited height and installation depth. Other characteristics include pragmatic aspects such as all controls, connections, and functionalities being located on the front of the equipment. This makes it ideal for locations that offer limited space, or locations such as street cabinets and mini Points of Presence (PoPs). The design and the low energy consumption also contribute to very good reliability and a long useable life.
